Lead Driver

Position Summary

To assist the site in providing effective control and management of all drivers and vehicles associated with the contracts related the IMS facility in addition to undertaking driving duties.

Duties

Shall ensure vehicles are driven in line with all current applicable legislation, company policies and procedures.

• Leading and directing the logistics team

• Responsible for their teams AL, absence management, training and performance reviews including supporting GPS and I reward processes and arranging on call cover when needed.

• Monitor/Manage ingenium system

• Shall ensure daily Health and Safety vehicle inspections are carried out to ensure the vehicle is in a road worthy condition and replenish with fuel, oil, air and water as necessary, including the completion of appropriate records. To check brake fluid and anti-freeze monthly and to log and report any defects and accidents to their line Manager.

• lead and conduct driver meetings

• Be responsible for effectively communicating messages within the team

• To report all traffic accidents involving any company vehicle to the company insurer immediately in accordance with their requirements in addition to notifying line manager.

• To ensure that vehicles are only used on authorised journeys.

• To be responsible for the safe carriage of goods to comply with the basic rules of the Transport Act 1968.

• Maintain and organise planned preventative maintenance i.e. servicing of all company vehicles and organise alternative vehicle cover when necessary.

• Undertake weekly inspection of vehicles for damage and cleanliness inside and out.

• Maintain effective control of vehicle mileage logs and petrol cards and submit the mileage records to the Administration Staff on a weekly basis

• Responsible for signing off all the weekly records/checks.

• Shall ensure all drivers undertake a vehicle assessment to enable them to drive the company vehicles and tailgate vehicles.

• Maintain all route and delivery schedule data and review quarterly.

• Shall ensure all delivery schedules are met in accordance with the daily requirements of the service.

• Undertake in conjunction with the Line Manager, monthly performance reviews and annual driver appraisals.

• Shall stand in for Logistics Supervisor when required.

• To undertake any other duties or tasks as reasonably required.

Required Experience

ü Holder of a full clean up to date driving license.

ü Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act

Skills

Educated to a good general standard with demonstrable verbal and numerical abilities. · Holder of a full clean up to date driving license. · Knowledge of Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act. · NVQ Level 2

Experience · Previous experience of transportation and supplies in small to medium size processing operation. · Knowledge of health-related products. · Previous experience in Sterile Services and/or health related products.

Requirements · Must be willing to work flexible hours if the need arises. · Able to fulfil Occupational Health requirements for the post including clearance of blood borne viruses in compliance with Company/customer policy

Working Conditions

There is a continuous requirement to use a VDU.

• There is a frequent requirement of sitting and standing in a restricted position for several long periods of time, i.e. whilst undertaking repetitive IT related tasks.

• To be able to maintain concentration where the work pattern is predictable for example, maintaining high standards of accuracy.
