Our Healthcare Customers are federally mandated (by Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services or CMS) requiring vendors to have the COVID-19 vaccination or an approved exemption. Unvaccinated Associates may be excluded from working at a Customer site, require routine testing with an approved exemption (if accepted by the Customer) or have limited Customer access impacting their ability to remain employed. This position is a Customer-facing role that falls under a state or CMS mandate.
Position Summary
Provide support and coordination regarding instrument management functions to include purchasing, inventory, repair and maintenance and tracking system maintenance. This individual must also ensure a collaborative working relationship with the customer and manage instrumentation for multiple departments.
Duties
- Responsible for managing to customer budget related to instruments. Ensures solid communications related to budget adherence to customer requirements. Includes proposing budget modifications to customer for inventory – replacements and additional inventory needs.
- Manages instrumentation, device, and product purchasing and inventory.
- Manages instrument and device repair and maintenance program.
- Provides on-site support and communication to assigned facilities with a focus on efforts to provide cost savings to the hospital by ensuring all surgical tools are functioning properly for their intended purpose.
- Collaborates with the System Executives, Director of Surgery, OR team, Perioperative team, leaders/coordinators, and SPD manager to plan and implement updates to count sheets, preference cards, tray reconfigurations, and inventory lists. Will also collaborate with managers to review and reset appropriate care and handling processes.
- Maintains and updates instrument Tracking System (when applicable/assigned)
- Manages and maintains required sterilization assurance materials and supplies for departmental needs.
- Documents daily cost savings initiatives, with total monies saved, and reports potential barriers to implementation.
- Communicates regularly with the STERIS IP Account Manager and support teams to ensure customer needs are met daily and any issues are resolved promptly.

Education Degree
- High School Diploma or GED
Required Experience
- Minimum of three years’ experience working with surgical instruments/devices and/or as SPD/SCPD technician required.
- Advanced understanding of medical instrumentation and devices.
- Must be knowledgeable and able to work efficiently within the Microsoft Office suite (including Word and Excel). Must be capable of learning and working efficiently in ERP systems. Must be capable of learning additional software as required.
- SPD Technician Certification required.
- Must maintain valid Driver’s License and vehicle insurance to meet travel requirements.
- Supports and maintains compliance with STERIS IMS established policies and procedures, the assigned facility and those of the Department of Health, JCAHO, OSHA, CDC, AAMI, AORN standards, and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Instructions for Use (IFUs).
- Communicates in a professional manner verbally and in writing to all hospital staff and company employees. Maintains a professional relationship with all facility departments to ensure effective, efficient support to the patient caregivers.
- Represents STERIS IMS, self and profession positively in all public arenas.
- Refers all decisions beyond personal scope of responsibilities to STERIS IP leadership.
- Communicates to STERIS MS leadership all non-compliance with regulatory and safety issues.
- Adheres to STERIS IP leadership / facility dress requirements, is neat and well-groomed at all times.
- Leads and participates in in-services and educational offerings provided by STERIS IP in the facility.
- Promotes best demonstrated practices with co-workers through open communication and continuous improvement of skills.
- Follows chain of command within hospital and STERIS IP regarding identified problems or issues to ensure proper communication and resolution.
- Assists in providing timely resolution to issues or concerns.
- Completes documentation required by STERIS IP related to Standard Operating Procedures or facility policies.
Preferred Experience
- Associate degree from an accredited two-year college or technical school preferred.
