The Laboratory Technician II is responsible for performing assigned microbiological or chemistry testing in accordance with regulated laboratory testing techniques, safety protocols, approved procedures, and customer-specific preparatory methods, documenting data, and preparing technical documents. The Laboratory Technician II assists and trains Laboratory Technicians I.

What you will do with us:

  1. Plans, organizes, and prepares for the day’s work autonomously and in collaboration with team members to determine best methods to accomplish daily goals.  
  2. Prepares and executes microbiology or chemistry Laboratory tests (e.g. Disinfection efficacy testing, Bioburden, Sterility, LAL Endotoxin, Microbial Limits, Anti-Microbial Effectiveness, Organism Identification, EO Residual, cleaning qualifications, and test method validations) in accordance with regulated laboratory testing techniquest, safety protocols, approved procedures, and customer-specific preparatory methods. (Note: Specific testing may vary according to location).
  3. Reads, interprets, and records test results.
  4. Prepares technical documents, such as working instructions, memos, etc. (paper and electronic) using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  5. Gathers basic information from customer and creates/edits customer-specific preparatory methods (for approval). 
  6. Participates in the development and review of testing methods and Standard Operating Procedures.
  7. Maintains inventory for specified area.
  8. Performs secondary review of data sheets.
  9. Assists and trains Laboratory Technician I.
  10. Contributes in a team effort by performing in accordance to all STERIS policies, GMP, Lean principles and other directives; supports the directives and decisions of higher-level management and performs other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate ability to meet the requirements of the job

Education Degree

  • High School Diploma or GED

You will be a great fit if you can:

  1. Minimum 4 years’ experience in a Laboratory with a HS Diploma or equivalent, or Associate’s degree with no experience. 
  2. Knowledge of microbes such as bacteria, mold and yeast; or knowledge of chemical assays and equipment.
  3. Knowledge of standard aseptic techniques and/or common laboratory equipment use.
  4. Experience in document writing, oral communication
  5.  Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations, including fractions, decimals and dilution schemes.
  6. Skill in prioritizing the adherence to safety protocol at all times and monitoring self and environment for potential hazards.
  7. Ability to perform duties that require physical demands throughout the day such as standing, twisting, and lifting and exerting force of up to 25 lbs.
  8. Ability to work with tools and equipment requiring effective hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
