Position Summary

The prototyper / tester will support New Product Development and sustainability projects through review, repair, assembly and testing of prototypes and existing equipment. This will include electromechanical and wire harness assembly, functional testing and performance testing.


  1. Assemble, repair, improve and build mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment. Provide services necessary to perform tests.
  2. Work from print, drawings, verbal and written instructions and be able to understand specifications.
  3. Review mechanical and electrical drawings, diagrams and build instructions.
  4. Plan the use of test benches according to projects, technical changes or other mandates requiring their use.
  5. Operate test equipment to measure temperature, electricity, flow, pressure, voltage, distance, time, noise and weight.
  6. Work with data acquisition systems,  recordings and drawings with provided training on said systems.
  7. Enter the data, in a detailed manner, of the tests carried out in the laboratory notebook (paper or electronic), prepare a summary of the results and perform basic computer calculations and analyses when applicable.
  8. Participate in events to prepare production for new products.
  9. Suggest ways, procedures and methods to improve the quality of products and the achievement of project objectives.
  10. Provide assistance in the analysis of equipment breakdowns (service assemblies), fault finding, and preventative maintenance.

  1. Participate in the analysis of technical problems and proposal of solutions.
  2. Maintain R&D equipment and perform preventative maintenance.
  3. Apply spot/stud welding to equipment.
  4. Demonstrate ease of working in a machine shop. Be able to use metal working tools, such as a lathe, mill, drill press and band saw.
  5. Ensure that work areas are kept clean and tidy. Participate in health and safety policies.
  6. Use internal company software such as Oracle and PLM (Training will be given).
  7. Confirm compliance of components to relevant standards.
  8. Participate in obsolescence management and sourcing to support the supply chain.
  9. Any other duties as required.

Education Degree

  • Vocational/Technical

Required Experience

  1. Diploma of professional studies in welding / assembly and / or in-house training
  2. A minimum of one year of work experience in a product development or product enhancement environment is required or a minimum of two years of work experience as a device tester in production.

Preferred Experience

Experience in using equipment and measuring tools for electrical, hydraulic and electronic tests would be preferable.
