Position Summary

The Software Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE) I assists QA engineers as they work to analyze software quality throughout the STERIS IMS business. This individual assists in maintaining and executing software test plans as well as documenting results and tracking defects to resolution to ensure software systems are validated according to regulatory requirements. The SQAE also assists in ensuring processes and procedures are followed correctly across the SDLC. The role will assist in duties across many areas of the SDLC from requirements gathering to software testing with a focus on ensuring quality practices throughout.


  1. Assists in reviewing and evaluating software products and systems to ensure adherence to STERIS-IMS quality standards.
  2. Participates in system design reviews to identify missing, ambiguous, conflicting or inaccurate requirements or design specifications.
  3. Assists in translating system requirements and designs into detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test cases.
  4. Assists in developing system documentation and test planning across multiple applications to ensure validation within the scope of regulatory requirements
  5. Assists in reviewing system documentation for accuracy and completeness
  6. Works closely with Systems Analysts and Developers to improve software quality.
  7. Follows IT processes and procedures and participates in the general IT controls processes related to auditing, monitoring, approvals, and validation.

  1. Executes test plans to perform functional, integration and regression testing
  2. Participates in exploratory test sessions.
  3. Identifies, records, and documents defects with an issue tracking system
  4. Monitors and tracks defects to resolution
  5. Documents test cases, test plans and test results with a test documentation tool
  6. Reports metrics to accurately reflect project status.
  7. Assists Systems Analysts in facilitating user acceptance testing
  8. Works with Business Process Owners to to obtain and document approval of systems and system changes
  9. Assists software developers in researching and identifying root causes for defects.
  10. Participates in Quality Assurance cycles to ensure applications satisfy end user requirements using a standard process methodology.
  11. Participates in activities throughout the SDLC starting with requirements gathering all the way through to delivery for the purpose of identifying and resolving quality issues as early as possible.

Education Degree

Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

Minimum Bachelors' Degree with 0-3 years’ IT experience or High School diploma with 3-5 years' IT experience.

Understanding of agile software development practices.

Academic or professional experience in cross-functional team environment.

Experience execute SQL for the purpose of analysis, testing, and troubleshooting.

Critical Thinking: Forms clear reasoned judgements by gathering, analyzing, and systematizing information.

Technical Writing: Writes clear explanations of technical processes and information.

Teamwork: Fosters an environment that bring more value from each individual’s abilities.

SQL: Able to execute SQL statements written by someone else

Organized: Able to balance the demands and priorities of multiple projects bringing each to successful completion.

Continuous Learner: Able to independently expand knowledge of multiple software systems quickly by using both online and offline resources.

Office Tools: Proficient in tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.

Technical Reading Comprehension: Able to understand technical business requirements and designs

Motivated: Able to work with little supervision
