Position Summary

This position provides strategic marketing communications expertise and execution for a variety of products and with a range of levels of message or marketing complexity to product and market managers that produce tangible and successful results. Develops, plans and precisely executes marketing strategy in support of STERIS’s Global Services marketing growth initiatives in a cost-effective manner. 


Key Duties Include:

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans that align with the business unit  growth initiatives, business objectives, and to the industry. Write creative briefs in support of these projects.
  • Establish and maintain internal and external Customer relationships, including leaders of product segments, as “thought partner(s)” who create market differentiation and value creation.
  • Manage all marketing communication activities for assigned business unit. Marketing communications activities to include: product launches, integrated campaigns, trade show strategy and content, journal advertising, public relations, direct marketing, web content, sales support, and customer collateral and multi-media activity.
  • Develop strategy to integrate marketing communications and campaigns into trade shows and events.
  • Liaise with corporate communications as an extension of the business unit marketing staff.
  • Research promotional channels and media for maximum performance on spend. Partner with digital media subject matter experts to establish and implement applicable digital marketing communication strategy.
  • Prepare and manage to an established budget. 
  • Analyze market research provided by the marketing group to better understand our Customers’ needs and market segment trends, in order to better communicate our key messages. Regularly scan and monitor landscape for market trends.
  • Execute and analyze marketing programs to ensure effectiveness.
  • Participate in field meetings, conduct field visits, and attend occasional Customer events to stay abreast of field service and Customer needs/requirements. .
  • Maintain status as marketing communication subject matter experts by being active members of local/regional communication networks, attending seminars/webinars on new forms of communication, subscribe to industry newsletter and publications, etc.
  • Analyze and track competitive spending, track estimated spending, competitive value props and key messaging. Provide insight as to potential competitive strategy.
  • Establish and track metrics to determine effectiveness and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead, coach, supervise other marketing communication professional(s), up to manager level. Oversee direct reports’ performance to objectives, provide coaching and feedback on performance behaviors, provide guidance and opportunities for development, address issues, as needed.

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years combined Marketing and/or Marketing Communications experience of time sensitive communication materials.
  • 2 years experience managing both traditional and digital marketing communications.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.


  • Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and implement and/or oversee multiple strategic marketing plans for several product lines with varying levels of complexity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed to interact with all levels of internal clients, Customers and external vendors.
  • Demonstrated effective use of creative and innovative skills.
  • Proficiency in developing web content.
  • Self-directed problem solver with proven results.
  • Exceptional project management skills.  Adept at managing high volume, complexity, fluidity and ambiguity while maintaining professional poise and delivering on commitments.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize work, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, set goals and enforce deadlines while maintaining flexibility to re-assess and re-prioritize.
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing, layout and design as well as commercial printing processes are a plus
  • Ability to effectively oversee, guide, and develop the performance of other marketing professionals.
