Position Summary

Acts as a clinical resource to both internal and external customers as it pertains to specialties that partner with STERIS IMS to create a safer place, which include, but is not limited to: Infectious Disease, gastroenterology (GI), peri-operative services (OR), ambulatory surgery centers (ASC), and various clinicians.  The Senior Educator is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of the Clinical Education support & services to Customers, internal and external. They are used as a resource by Device Repair to assist in driving revenue, identifying emerging and competitive opportunities, and increase clinical education opportunities to promote the science behind technology whereby supporting STERIS Healthcare business.

Duties

  • Act as a field resource to identify emerging trends, competitive activities, and new products in our markets. Support corporate efforts to position the clinical group to drive revenue of identified product lines.
  • Based on observations and needs assessment, identify topic(s) to write and have published.  Written documentation could be either an article or a study guide.  Minimum standard:  one article/study guide written and submitted for publication each year.
  • For “contact hour” customer presentations, identify and create new topics based on customer needs, review and update existing presentations based on industry changes to ensure contact hours are up to date.
  • Plans, develops, and provides formal educational seminars, workshops to stimulate product interest and increase sales.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with healthcare professionals, industry leaders, professional organizations, and business associates through active membership in organizations (i.e., AORN, SGNA, APIC, etc.) and participation in national/local professional meetings, workshops, and seminars.
  • Take a pro-active approach to minimize potential customer issues by providing recommendations to appropriate resource or resources on customer needs/requirements.
  • Provide clinical expertise with troubleshooting (equipment and machine) and resolve customer issues supporting and collaborating with Account Managers, Quality Improvement Team, Regulatory, and R&D as required.
  • Keep Sr. Manager, Education Compliance, Sales and Service Ops Managers up to date on customer concerns/needs, potential problems, and potential new businesses/loss of business.
  • Provide ongoing clinical guidance and training to Device Repair teams.
  • Supports other departments (i.e., Marketing, D&I, R&D) through providing clinical expertise in the development and market launch of new products or services as well as concerns with existing products and programs.
  • Works directly with customer, Dealer Representatives, Sales/Service/Customer Support employees for the purpose of providing clinical expertise with strong emphasis on the application of STERIS products via customer visits, presentations, hands-on training, and communication (written and oral).

  • Audits customer work processes (CSSD, OR, GI, IC) and use of equipment and related accessories to ensure compliance with operating/processing instructions.  Based on audit, proactively identify opportunities for improvement and provide recommendations.
  • Document audit with recommended actions copying customer and all appropriate Device Repair divisions.
  • Supports STERIS device repair team as Sterile Processing subject matter experts to gain Customer confidence, grow product line revenue and promote STERIS solutions
  • Provides clinical expertise to customers, potential customers, sales force and account managers
  • Presents relevant materials at national, regional, and local professional society meetings and/or STERIS Device repair workshops
  • Publishes in newsletters, within blogs, in journals, etc. information relative to industry standards of practice and services relative to product lines and S3 services
  • Validates continuing education program objectives and content to affirm CE eligibility
  • Works to resolve repetitive problems among sales representatives, support staffs, and problem accounts
  • Creates learning tools bridging corporate core products with standards of practice for customer edification 
  • Develops and facilitates of ongoing education programs for sales representatives, technical and clinical staffs, and customers that are designed to increase product knowledge, resulting in a better understanding of services and products and sustained utilization of services
  • Validates programs and activities that certify competency of sales staff in performance of core job duties
  • Tracks training and continuing education of sales representatives and of other technical and clinical personnel 
  • Monitors, measures, and analyzes training program results
  • Maintains learning tools to link sales to the health care provider culture

Education Degree

High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • 7-10+ years training experience
  • Formal training experience, 3 years
  • 4+ years Sterile Processing experience
  • Leadership, management, or consulting experience 1 year
  • Sterile Processing Certification Required
  • Active certification in sterile processing/central sterile AND Certified Endoscopy Reprocessor via CBSPD or IAHCSMM required. If not certified as an Instrument Specialist this is required within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance and be available to operate a vehicle as needed to meet travel requirements.
