Position Summary

This role manages the professional education of both internal and external STERIS IMS customers, clinical support and education, maintaining cross-functional relationships between sales and STERIS IMS customers, a consultative role to help improve customer processes, and assisting the sales force achieve their financial objectives. The Senior Clinical Education Specialist is responsible for the day to day delivery of the Clinical Education support & services to Customers. They are used as a resource by Sales to assist in driving revenue and by the Marketing department to identify emerging and competitive opportunities.

Duties
  • Act as a field resource to sales and marketing to identify emerging trends, competitive activities and new products in our markets. Support corporate efforts to position the clinical group to drive revenue of identified product lines.
  • Increase clinical education opportunities to promote the science behind technology whereby supporting STERIS Healthcare business
  • Based on observations and needs assessment, identify topic(s) to write and have published.  Written documentation could be either an article or a study guide.  Minimum standard:  one article/study guide written and submitted for publication each year.
  • For “contact hour” customer presentations, identify and create new topics based on customer needs, review and update existing presentations based on industry changes to ensure contact hours are up to date.
  • Plans, generates and provides formal educational seminars, workshops to stimulate product interest and increase sales.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with healthcare professionals, industry leaders, professional organizations and business associates through active membership in organizations (i.e., AORN, SGNA, APIC, etc.) and participation in national/local professional meetings, workshops and seminars.
  • For serious customer issues, identify the problem, gather all facts and data, document issues and provide immediate and ongoing communication to Director of Clinical Education and others as directed.  This may include Legal, Regulatory, R&D, Sales and Service, Customer Support and Marketing.  Draft documentation and follow-up requirements/recommendations for the customer on a timely basis.

  • Take a pro-active approach to minimize potential customer issues by providing recommendations to Account Managers and Regional Sales Managers on customer needs/requirements.
  • Provide clinical expertise with troubleshooting (equipment and machine) and resolve customer issues supporting and collaborating with Account Managers, Quality Improvement Team, Regulatory, and R&D as required.
  • Keep Account Managers and Region Sales Managers up-to-date on customer concerns/needs, potential problems, and potential new businesses/loss of business.
  • Provide ongoing clinical guidance and training to Account Managers and Regional Sales Managers.
  • Supports other departments (i.e., Marketing, D&I, R&D) through providing clinical expertise in the development and market launch of new products or services as well as concerns with existing products and programs.
  • Works directly with customer, Dealer Representatives, Sales/Service/Customer Support employees for the purpose of providing clinical expertise with strong emphasis on the application of STERIS products via customer visits, presentations, hands-on training and communication (written and oral).
  • Audits customer work processes (CSSD, OR, GI, IC) and use of equipment and related accessories to ensure compliance with operating/processing instructions.  Based on audit, proactively identify opportunities for improvement and provide recommendations.
  • Document audit with recommended actions copying customer, Account Manager and Region Manager.
Education Degree
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience
  • Five years nursing experience, preferred hospital expertise in the Operating Room, Central Supply, Infection Control or Endoscopy Department.  Professional certifications preferred (e.g., CNOR, CRCST, CIC, CGRN)
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program (BSN strongly preferred) or strong clinical credentials supporting other (Bachelor Degree in a related field preferred)
  • Licensed Registered Nurse or equivalent is required
  • Understanding of surgical instrumentation and principles of sterilization
  • Experience providing clinical support for a healthcare industry manufacturer required
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Excellent presentation skills before large and small groups
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • May have supervisory responsibilities
