Mechanical Engineer I

Position Summary

Performs various engineering assignments with a focus on complete mechanical systems.

  1. Design mechanical parts and processes for use in new product development and the repair of surgical devices.
  2. Measure and document mechanical parts considering complete mechanical systems.
  3. Conduct research that tests and analyzes the fit, form, and function of new components and the feasibility, design, operation and performance of existing equipment, components, systems and processes.
  4. Create solid models and engineering drawings with a focus on manufacturability.
  5. Develop, source and evaluate prototype designs.
  6. Conduct failure analysis and identify critical components.
  7. Design tooling, jigs and fixtures.
  8. Conduct technical presentations to medical professionals and IMS employees.
  9. Create part numbers for components and assemblies for purchasing, inventory control, and factory use.
Education Degree
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering General
Required Experience
  1. 3-5 years of experience (medical preferred):
    1. Materials engineering, metallography, and working with polymers, and plastics. Ability to build prototypes/reverse engineer mechanical parts.
    2. Machining processes and techniques. 
    3. Parametric modeling (SolidWorks preferred). 
    4. Understanding of mechanical systems and interaction sub-systems.  Mathematical concepts probability / statistical inference.  Ability to apply mathematical operations.  
    5. Production processes, quality control, and costs. 
    6. Design control methods, including verification/validation testing techniques.
  2. Computer Skills - Microsoft Office applications; previous experience with Oracle preferred.
  3. Mechanical design experience.
  4. Ability to present complex engineering designs to project teams, customers, and senior management.
