Position Summary

The Manager, Health and Safety is responsible for developing, implementing and being a resource for Health and Safety management systems at the various acquisition companies. The Manager, Health and Safety will be an integral team member of the HSE team and STERIS facilities globally, to implement “best practices” for STERIS employees.

Duties

  • Develop and implement a World Class Safety System process throughout the IMS organization.
  • Provide support and guidance to each designated facility to ensure success in achieving World Class Safety
  • Assist and guide each designated location in identifying gaps in the existing health, safety and environment system, and outline methodology to eliminate gaps
  • Be actively involved in each location’s process for the following:
    • Ensure all Health, Safety & Environment training for all employees is compliant to regulations / laws at the time.
    • Provide templates and direction for completion of each element of OSHA compliance
    • Develop timelines and ownership of each element and sub-element as required
    • Assist with completion of each element/policy/procedure
    • Provide audit preparedness assistance
    • Provide support and direction for EPA policies, procedures and laws
    • Be available to each site throughout the entire process
  • Work with each facility to sustain total OSHA/EPA compliance
  • Provide support and guidance to each facility throughout their World Class Safety Excellence process
  • Define and develop health, safety and environment system components to each facility
  • Assist each facility in the writing and implementation of specific health, safety and environment system components.
  • Work closely with the HSE Corporate Team to identify additional initiatives to be undertaken by Corporate team
  • Remain current on health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Be a secondary resource whenever needed, throughout the environmental compliance function at ST
  • Evaluate equipment, physical facilities, operation techniques, and procedures
  • Establish requirements for special monitoring procedures and personnel exposure scenarios
  • Develop and implement specific training for new procedures and tasks
  • Prepare and implement communications based upon OSHA and EPA new regulations and/or revisions to existing regulations
  • Review, coordinate and assist with creation, modification, or closing of facilities via enforcing all procedures or regulations.
  • Conduct audits, perform evaluations and create/utilize HSE Management Systems
  • Coordinate with Corporate HSE Senior Manager, regarding the start and coordination of each facility’s Voluntary Protection Program
  • Health, Safety & Environment assistance for newly acquired facilities – as directed
  • Training and education for facility central safety committee
  • Health, Safety & Environment standards and initiatives development
  • Contractor and vendor safety – selection/evaluation
  • Safety representative between executive management, loss prevention, federal, state and local authorities
  • Emergency control procedures development and safety training development
  • Coordination of environmental compliance tasks

Education Degree

  • Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety or related field required.
  • Experience – Trainer for all HSE topics
  • Experience in OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and experience with developing and executing HSE Management Systems
  • Experience working with worker’s compensation is preferred
  • Experienced with DuPont Safety Resources Training & Systems
  • Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible work experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the field of HSE as evidenced by various accreditations
  • Excellent managerial skill sets & communication abilities
