Position Summary

The Instructional Designer (ID) is responsible for creating/writing the instructional content of the project. Understanding the business unit’s environment and needs, the ID will design and develop instructional content and learning solutions including but not limited to web-based learning, instructor-led, blended instruction, and virtual sessions.  The ID works with the training team leadership and SMEs to obtain the information to be taught and organize it into logical, instructional patterns that are appropriate for the culture and level of expertise of the end users. In addition, this role will independently develop entry and advanced level courses for both internal and external audiences and act as a liaison between departments in determining needs of courses and appropriate methods of delivery. Program development timelines will be managed by this position in a dynamic rapid paced environment.

  • Create detailed design documentation including storyboards.
  • Communicate design concepts to media specialists and other project members.
  • Using knowledge about the business unit’s issues, design training that matches the learners' training needs, and contributes to solving the business unit’s issues.
  • Write content into the authoring tool, using models to create the instructional document.
  • Identify and validate the content by working with subject matter experts.
  • Organize the content into effective and appropriate groupings that logically flow throughout the content.
  • Build instruction so that the learners practice applying core competencies or objectives within the training.
  • Ensure the content/structure is designed and developed to standards.
  • Develop effective assessment questions, quality distracters, and practice interactions that match the objectives and content of the training and that accurately test the learners' ability to meet the objectives.
  • Ensure that the implemented media/graphics actually teaches and is appropriate for the intended instructional purpose.
  • Ensure that all storyboards, graphics, and final versions are edited in sufficient time to make needed improvements.
  • Report the status of development to Training Director or Training Manager. Report any variance as soon as it is discovered, to minimize negative impact to the project.
  • Identify customer concerns, as well as expressed issues/objections, and share them with the Training Director of Training Manager.
  • Identify add-on work or out-of-scope work.
  • Implement training departments design process and guidelines.
  • Complete assigned work on time.
  • Ensure work is of the highest quality.

Education Degree
  • Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience
  • Domestic travel up to 20%
  • 4 years of equivalent experience in ISD field
  • Two (2) or more years of experience developing online learning courses. 
  • Two (2) years of experience in instructional design participating in all phases of the project life cycle and demonstrating creative solutions for deliverables.
  • Documented experience developing courses using Articulate, Captivate, Adobe Products, and related software.
  • Proven track record in researching content, working with SME, and transforming content into performance-based, engaging Web-based, and/or classroom training.
  • Experienced scriptwriter with expertise in creating complex, realistic scenarios for videos and audios.
  • Excellent analytical skills, and the ability to convert information and needs into practical training deliverables.
  • Proven superior writing skills, including the ability to write concise, creative, and effective instruction, especially for WBL training. 
  • Experience writing learning objectives based on the appropriate learning levels for the desired results.
