Position Summary
The Business Unit Controller II is responsible for the oversight of the financial and accounting performance of the assigned business units. The Controller will provide business guidance and financial support for the business by being a core member of the leadership team. The financial responsibilities flow through and include the subsidiaries of the business. This position supports the Instrument Processing Sales team.
What You'll do as a Business Unit Controller II
- Significant contributor to strategic planning process, including determining market share targets and plans, and product development decisions. Must address financial opportunities and risks.
- Accountable for creating annual operating plans and capital budgets for supported business units. This is done in partnership with BU leadership, and includes all levels of the income statement.
- Provide financial leadership in the development of new business offerings and structures, analysis of customer proposals and product offerings that provide compelling value proposition to our customers, and to be the lead financial resource on any business unit specific acquisitions.
- Provide leadership for the financial integration of acquisitions and subsidiaries within the business units.
- Partner with key internal customers to identify and explore alternative methods to grow the business.
- Participate in the product portfolio process, preparing financial analysis and forecasts of new product development projects, developing pricing, cost and gross margin targets. Monitor and report on progress throughout project.
- Advise and assist in creation of pricing actions. Forecast, quantify and monitor impact.
- Assist in the design and development of any business unit compensation plans, ensuring that they drive the appropriate behaviors, and is financially sound.
- Review and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual operating results. Provide monthly and quarterly reporting of all aspects of the business unit’s performance. This would include analysis, variance analysis, and explanations for revenue, pricing, margin analysis, expenses. Advise non financial management on matters related to accounting issues, recognition of revenue, and expense management.
- Create period (monthly and quarterly) forecasts of all major revenues and expenses categories. Review, educate and gain alignment on forecast variances to improve customer service levels while driving down inventory.
- Identify and refine leading indicators for the business, identify trends, quantify impact.
- Institute key metrics and reporting that measure the performance of the business units, helping to develop and maintain product line profitability.
- Ongoing, identify opportunities or areas of financial underperformance, conduct in depth analysis and make appropriate recommendations.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Ensure proper revenue and expense recognition, particularly with new product offerings and revenue stream strategies.
- Oversee internal controls within the business units, insuring compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.
- Be the financial “conscience” of the businesses, ensuring integrity of the systems and reporting and expenses/revenue.
- Review of all major financial contracts.
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls and fulfill audit requirements/responsibilities.
- Manage and lead team of finance professionals
The Experience, Skills and Abilities Needed

Required:
- Bachelors Degree
- 12+ years experience in progressive finance or accounting roles
- Experience in financial strategy development, planning, analysis, internal controls (including a working knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley requirements) is required
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, accounting theories, financial analysis, cost accounting and financial concepts that are considered leading edge
- Experience with complex reporting structures and organizations is required
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
Preferred:
- Masters Degree preferred
- Experience as a people manager is preferred
- Experience with ERP systems (Oracle is a plus)
Other:
- Highly proficient in analyzing activities, interpreting financial / operating results, and identifying and implementing corrective actions.
- Expert knowledge of accounting theory and application of financial and accounting principles.
- Highly experienced in computer modeling and financial forecasting. Must have very strong spreadsheet and modeling skills.
- Highly proficient in use of financial analysis software.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills are required.
- Must be able to manage and prioritize competing tasks in a time sensitive environment.
- Must be able to identify, understand, and accurately account for differences in generally accepted accounting principles across complex international operations.
- Must be open minded and adaptable to new approaches, have the ability to work independently with limited guidance and direction, work effectively to develop positive, trusting relationships and be viewed as a business partner.
- Must be able to develop high performing, highly effective finance organizations within the business unit.

Pay range for this opportunity is $122,187.50 - $158,125.00. This position is eligible for bonus participation.
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed. Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
