Position Summary

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for taking a lead role in the maintenance and repair of all plant

machinery and equipment. Will provide technical support and drive innovation. The post holder will provide

technical support for new and existing equipment, oversee, and advise on the installation of equipment and

is also responsible for all facility maintenance. All maintenance activities must be carried out in line with the

company health and safety procedures.


  1. With the existing maintenance team, drive the maintenance plan & program for Reading AST plant to meet operational requirements.
  2. Plan PM's, rectify processing breakdowns and follow inspection routines according to SOP and schedule.
  3. Ensure that all records of repair are documented.
  4. Repair, prioritise and assign all corrective and improvement maintenance activities.
  5. Oversee the rolling out of site-specific Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) project
  6. Support the control of contractors ensuring contractor documents (RAMS) meet the business requirements.
  7. Liaise with contractors for the maintenance and repairs of plant equipment such as conveyors, motors, pumps, etc.
  8. To liaise with operators and rectify potential issues that may lead to failure to minimise and prevent breakdowns.
  9. Test faulty equipment and apply knowledge of functional operation of pneumatic and hydraulic units and systems to diagnose the root cause of equipment malfunction.
  10. Replace defective components and wiring and adjust mechanical parts using the appropriate tools.

  1. The alignment and adjustment of equipment according to specifications.
  2. Develop continuous improvement (CI) and support the delivery of training
  3. Liaise with colleagues and other departments to enhance efficiencies.
  4. Adhere to site and corporate policies and procedures relating to health, safety and quality
  5. Liaise with suppliers to obtain competitive quotations for parts to maintain plant equipment and effectiveness.
  6. Provide technical support for new and existing machinery.
  7. Develop a Kanban system to support equipment spare parts inventory
  8. Perform site Weekly and Monthly Maintenance and H&S checks
  9. Actively participate in all STERIS initiatives including: One Team One Goal, Sustainability, 5S, Lean, HSSE
  10. To undertake any other duties or tasks as reasonably required

Required Experience

  1. To have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working within a maintenance environment.
  2. Hold current electrical and/or mechanical qualification
  3. Strong engineering background
  4. High degree of pragmatic intellect
  5. Root cause analysis/problem solving experience
  6. IT literate with Microsoft Office
  7. Strong ability to plan and prioritise workload
  8. Experience of working with contractors in line with site policies
  9. Working experience and practical application of health and safety within a maintenance environment e.g. risk assessment
