We are currently recruiting for a Desktop Technician vacancy. The Desktop Technician role is a skilled role, in all areas of front-line IT customer support and generally skilled in all areas of desktop computing platforms. They will perform administration activities including creating, and supporting network accounts, computer accounts, application accounts, email accounts, and group memberships. Configuring and deploying desktop hardware and software, network printers, and mobile devices. Maintaining inventories and purchasing desktop hardware and software. Documenting and modifying computing processes and standard operating procedures.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Providing technical support to the Service Desk Specialists and providing additional overflow phone support to Service Desk Specialists when needed. Providing desk side computer support at the local facility. Providing remote computer support to all STERIS locations, facilities and home-based users (only hardware provided by STERIS IT). Performing wireless device support. Monitoring and responding to issues and problems assigned in a ticketing system. Relocating desktop hardware in facilities. Training customers on desktop applications, software, and hardware platforms. Training Service Desk Analyst on standard configurations and IT procedures, including onboarding. Some site travel may be required in this role so a critical requirement of this role is having a driving licence (close to obtaining one will be considered) Professionalism and cooperation when working with customers, team members and management is essential.

End User Administration – 55%
- Creates and supports network accounts, computer accounts, email accounts, application accounts, and group memberships in accordance with IT policies and procedures relating to SOX (Sarbanes[1]Oxley).
- Configures and deploys desktop hardware and software.
- Configures and deploys network printers.
- Configures and deploys mobile devices.
- Process hardware and software provisioning requests.
- Maintains inventories and purchases desktop hardware and software.
- Creates and maintains standard operating procedures and knowledge base articles.
End User Support – 40%
- Provide second level support to the Service Desk Specialist(s).
- Provides desk side support for end user problems and request
- Provides computer support for global STERIS locations, remote facilities and home based users.
- Monitors and responds to ticketing system assignments.
- Relocate desktop hardware in facilities.
- Trains customers on desktop applications, software\hardware platforms.
- Provides overflow phone support for Service Desk Specialist(s).
- Perform wireless device troubleshooting.
- Train Service Desk Specialist(s) on standard configurations and IT procedures including onboarding.
Duties cont.
Project Management - 5%
- Will serve as the project lead on simple desktop projects based on the business plan.
- Coordinates project implementation and manages deployment timelines.
- Develops and submits budget proposals and funding requests
Preferred Experience
Experience Requirements:
- At least three years full time experience or equivalent on the job training is required.
- System support for client hardware platforms, Dell, HP, Lenovo. Dell preferred.
- System and application support for Microsoft client platforms required.
- Familiarity with System administration of Active Directory is preferred.
- Experience in application/system technologies. Microsoft, Dell, McAfee, Citrix and Checkpoint preferred.
- Account Management
- Creation, modification and disabling of various business applications.
- Hardware ii. A+ Technician\Client Hardware. iii. Laptops, desktops, workstations, thin clients and mobile devices. iv. Local and network printers, Scanners and other computing peripherals.
- Microsoft/ Windows XP/ Windows 7 /Windows 8 / Microsoft Office / Internet Explorer
