Position Summary

Based on site in our modern facility in Leicester, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The Manager, Health Safety & Environment is responsible for providing HSE support, advice and solutions, ensuring compliance, and developing best practice on health and safety issues for the Liecester Operations and Bishop Stortford Operations as required. The position is also responsible for driving high standards of safety performance enabling the STERIS business to achieve its HSE objectives.

Working closely with the Director of HSE and the operational business to champion, communicate and ensure the delivery of the divisional HSE strategy with the objective of making and keeping the business safe against existing and emerging health and safety, fire safety, security and environmental risks. Building internal HSE competence and capability through the delivery of HSE support, training, audit and review.

Supporting the Director of Health Safety & Environment to implement, review and audit best practice HSE management systems across the facilities, contributing to the development of robust, innovative health, safety and environment (HSE) standards, policies, guidance and practice.

Duties

  1. Provide proactive, efficient and professional HSE advice, coaching and support to facilities and functional teams.
  2. Work with allocated sites, site management teams to communicate and drive compliance with HSE standards to ensure a safe working environment.
  3. Ensure that effective management of health, safety and environment is embedded at an operational level within the business, and that managers and employees at all levels are aware of their HSE responsibilities.
  4. Contribute to the development of and support the effective implementation of the divisional HSE strategy, participating in the regular review of the strategy and its implementation.
  5. Support the development, monitoring and maintenance of HSE Management Systems that are equivalent and aligned to the ISO 45001 and 14001 management standards the continuous improvement of the Safety Management System and
  6. Manage the effective implementation of HSE management systems, policies, standards, procedures and guidelines.

  1. Support continuous improvement and solutions to occupational exposures and deliver strong results from behavioral based processes.
  2. Support the development, completion and ongoing review of risk assessments, advising on the suitability and application of risk control measures, identify and report on inadequately controlled risks and non-compliance with statutory or internal non-compliance.
  3. Support the development of and deliver HSE training and other engagement initiatives that improve employee awareness, competency and safety performance.
  4. Support environmental compliance, including conducting reviews, to ensure business units are fully compliant with relevant environmental requirements.

Education Degree

  • Vocational/Technical

Required Experience

  1. 3-5 years experience with vocational and professional qualification or in lieu of these qualifications, 8-10 years experience.
  2. Professional Qualification (Chartered membership of IOSH or equivalent)
  3. Experience with multi-site operations.
  4. Experience of working independently with little supervision

  6. Working knowledge of Safety and Health Management Systems (ISO 45001), Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).
  7. Ability to develop and deliver effective training.
  8. Highly effective communication skills; written and oral.
  9. Confident with the use of IT systems, e-learning platforms and software.  Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, databases, and function specific software.
