How You Will Make a Difference

Coordination and oversight of instrument readiness in the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Department (SPD) to facilitate efficient case flow. Responsible for overseeing and/or assisting in projects and process improvement initiatives in compliance with contractual obligations. Promotes Customer service/satisfaction through resolution of OR/SPD issues within the facility. Perform duties in accordance with hospital, TJC, AORN, AAMI and other appropriate policies and procedures. Provides oversight to projects and assists in new hire orientation and training. Uses developed skills and practical knowledge to perform scheduled and unscheduled tasks independently.

What You Will Do

Assessments/Analysis:

1. Assist in performing strategic and operational assessments in the operating room, sterile processing, and

surgical support areas.

2. Conducts monthly monitoring and quarterly KPI reports to ensure service delivery efforts are meeting

operational goals and contractual agreements.

 

OR/SPD Process Improvement:

3. Demonstrates understanding of Operating Room and Sterile Processing Department processes.

4. Supports the development and execution of process improvement plans based on results of monthly KPI

data.

5. Aids the OR and SPD leadership on preference card creation and/or management to ensure accuracy of

surgical case pull.

6. Collaborates with OR/SPD leadership to identify surgical instrumentation related to tray additions and

reconfigurations, building surgeon’s specialty sets, etc.

Project Work:

7. Support OpFlow or similar tray rationalization and optimization projects

8. Support SPM count sheet reconciliation and data projects as required.

Oversight:

9. Able to assist in managing, training, and implementation of STERIS engagement deliverables in a contracted

facility.

10. Participates and assists in new STERIS IPS employee orientation, on the job training, in-service education

and STERIS IPS or facility quality assurance programs when needed.

Operations:

11. Provides Operating Room (O.R.) staff support in preparing the O.R. suite for surgery by verifying instrument

trays are available prior to case start times. Identifies instrument related issues and provides real time

solutions to ensure procedure continuity.

12. Keeps track of surgical case flow during the day, monitor instrument needs, and notify SPD personnel in

advance of any possible additional/emergent instrumentation needs. Must be able to resolve issues or offer

alternatives when necessary.

13. Perform daily required audits of KPI data to include:

· Case cart audits

· Room Visits for identification of OR Frictions

· Post Case Cart Audits

· Tray Audits

14. Performs KPI data analysis to identify trends and operational issues within the operating rooms and SPD.

15. Coordinates the planning and communication of priority instrument turnarounds. Help communicate to the

surgical team essential instrumentation information that may affect or delay surgery start time.

16. Responds to problem calls from Surgery as required by the contract deliverables.

17. Verifies that required instrumentation has been sterilized and is available for next day, call or weekend cases.

18. Completes documentation as required for inventory/equipment requests, instrument sets, etc

19. Ensures navigator assignments are completed or assigned.

20. Other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Be Successful

1. Vocational/Technical certification and 4+ years of O.R., SPD, or Perioperative work experience or High

School Diploma and 6+ years of O.R., SPD, or Perioperative work experience is required.

2. Must have, or obtain, SPD certification through CBSPD or HSPA within 12 months of hire. Certification must

be maintained per renewal schedule.

3. Requires thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and is capable of learning software

programs and/or hardware as required. Requires Smart Phone knowledge.

4. Highschool Diploma or GED is Required. Associates Degree preferred.

5. Able to perform all job requirements of an Operating Room Liaison I.
