The Role

 

The Senior Facilities Reliability Engineer at STERIS is essential for ensuring the reliability and compliance of STERIS’s facility mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and utility systems within a regulated environment. This role involves the strategic implementation and continuous improvement of maintenance practices to uphold ISO9001, ISO13485, OSHA and local Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations. By collaborating with the Facilities, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and HSE teams and utilizing a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), the Senior Facilities Reliability Engineer aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce downtime, bolster safety, and ensure compliance with defined standards and regulations.

 

The Senior Facilities Reliability Engineer’s contribution spans multiple STERIS U.S. locations. This role is considered a key contributor to the operational excellence and regulatory adherence of the organization and demands a combination of technical expertise, strategic planning, and a detailed understanding of regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will approach maintenance and reliability challenges with innovative solutions, contributing to the organization's goals of maintaining high operational standards and compliance with industry and local regulations.

 

Home based in Birmingham, AL (near a major airport).

 

Travel up to 20% to each of our U.S. locations is required.

What You Will Do

 

  • Optimize maintenance management systems (25%) – Refine and utilize a CMMS (eMaint) to streamline facilities operations and maintenance and improve reliability.
  • Develop and refine facilities, maintenance, and reliability standards (20%) - Lead the creation of safe, efficient protocols that ensure equipment reliability and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Create and maintain SOPs and maintenance documentation (20%) - Develop detailed procedures and standard work to guide effective, compliant, and safe maintenance operations across all designated STERIS locations.
  • Conduct reliability and compliance audits (15%) - Perform regular assessments to ensure maintenance activities meet or exceed regulatory and operational standards. Generate reports and provide information as needed to support business objectives and internal and external audits.
  • Design and implement Facilities training programs (10%) - Provide training to enhance the skills and knowledge of Facilities personnel in safety, reliability, and compliance.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving complex facilities issues (10%) - Offer expert advice and hands-on support at any STERIS location for critical facilities tasks.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure business success.

What You Will Need to Be Successful

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in Engineering, Facility Management, or Related field. 
  • 4+ years of experience with Facilities Management and MEP Systems including Hands-on management of MEP systems, including maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization for reliability and efficiency.
  • 4+ years of experience with Preventive Maintenance Programs including the development and management of preventive maintenance programs using CMMS (preferably eMaintenance).
  • 3 + years of experience with Regulated Industry Compliance working in regulated industries (healthcare, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, aeronautics, automotive, etc.), focusing on operational and maintenance compliance.
  • 3 + years of experience with SOPs and Training Development. Experience authoring SOPs, task lists, work instructions, standard work, and developing training plans for maintenance staff in line with regulatory standards.

Preferred Skills and Experience

 

  • 1+ years of experience with Audit and Compliance. Experience conducting audits for maintenance operations compliance, identifying gaps, and implementing corrective actions, preferred.
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) certifications, preferred.

Pay range for this opportunity is $94,000 to 109,000.

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
